September at Plush Addict and Eternal Maker

Dashwood Dovestone Wildflowers (Rayon) Viscose  This fabric sold out super fast last time it was in stock, so you have been warned.  This is a super drapey wide rayon fabric, perfect for kimonos, dresses, palazzo style pants, skirts, tops-  any garment making where drape is essential!  This fabric needs gentle prewashing and as with rayon/viscose generally, care when cutting, sewing and pinning. Also available in gold and grey.
3. Makower Dream 20 Fabric FQ Bundle.  A pretty mix of blush pinks, creams and soft blues.  Available as a bundle or separately.

Eternal Maker

1. **PRE ORDER**Trixie Fat Quarter Bundle by Heather Ross (21 FQs)  This is a hard one to resist.  Pre-order (currently due March 2019) so maybe a potential Christmas present.  I love the addition of the little gingham to this collection.
2. Wool Mix Spot.  Reversible poly/wool blend woven fabric which is ideal for winter coats and jackets.  This reminds me of Boden coats!  This would be very cute with the Named Clothing Lourdes cropped jacket for cute little A-line jacket.
3. Lady McElroy Serenity.  Gorgeous large digital floral print on viscose on a sunny yellow background.  Wide width and lots and lots of drape.  This is a lovely dressmaking fabric!

August at Eternal Maker and Plush Addict- Seasonal Transition Choices

We're moving out of Summer and into Autumn in the UK, a time of transition so for this month's sponsor visits to Eternal Maker and Plush Addict, I've chosen colours, fabrics and styles that fit with a change of season and keep the mix of dressmaking and quilting that I love.

Eternal Maker

1. Tea House Top and Dress by Sew House Seven Paper and PDF versions. I've included this as it's on my September make list.  I've had the pattern for a while and it looks like the ideal transitional dress, especially the longer version so if I include it here, it might give me the push to get it sewn!  There are no extra fastenings to include and I think it could be worn over a skinny long sleeve top to give it a longer wearing time. 
2. Dashes- Indigo Woven from Sevenberry. Medium to heavy weight with texture.  Ideal for cushions bags and heavier weight structural clothing.
3. Double-Sided double Gauze in Scallop Stripe Grey from Kokka. Maximise the contrast by using both sides of this gorgeous double gauze
4. Mustard Rust: Eternal Maker custom fat quarter bundle.  I love the curated bundles at Eternal Maker, they put together what looks like an effortless combination and this one is the perfect autumnal mix with the warm colours and the textural mix of cottons with linen blends.

Plush Addict 

1. Cork Fabric: with natural and dark metallic grain. I've yet to try cork fabric but I've seen so many bags and purses made with it and it has great structural and textural appeal.  Kellie Rose describes this as feeling like leather and it's also known as cork leather. 
2. Denim 11oz 150cm wide.  Dark denim, ready for clothing, cushions, bags and accessories.  You can read a handy guide to denim weight here which includes guidance and tips for sewing; at under 12oz,  this is in the lighter weight category.
3. Makower Bloom Autumn FQ Bundle (11 fabrics). I couldn't resist this bundle with the title and colourway!
4. Dashwood Boho Meadow Animals in white. Designed by Bethan Janine (also available in dark blue).

I've got a basic membership to Picmonkey so I've been playing around with some mood board style layouts to collate the images which is fun to do!

July at Plush Addict and Eternal Maker

I've chosen a wonderful selection of the latest fabric and pattern arrivals at Eternal Maker and Plush Addict for my July sponsor post.  The weather is forecast to continue warm in the UK for the next month or so which is a great encouragement for dressmaking, plus I've included some 'Christmas in July" quilting items for those who want to make an early start!  The Plush Addict website has had a makeover and I found it easier to navigate for specific items, especially on my iPad.

1. Dashwood Dovestone Large Floral Viscose (Rayon), wide width, ideal for dressmaking, lots of drape. I've bought a couple of metres of this for a Sew Over It Kimono and cami so this photo is from my fabric.  The background colour is a charcoal grey, it is divine!  Other prints include Ochre Floral, Small Floral.  It needs gentle handling and prewashing (30 degrees on handwash or wool cycle) as rayon tends to shrink.
2. Tilly and the Buttons Seren Dress.  Suitable for a sewist with some experience. Lots of options- frill, no frill, tie front detail.
3. Dashwood Studio, Winterfold 8 FQ bundle.  Winter themed quilting cotton with copper metallic detail.  Also available in yardage. 
4. Dashwood Studio Christmas Street Drawstring Advent Bag Calendar 75cm Panel. Designed by Jane Farnham  I saw these on the Dashwood IG feed a few weeks ago and it was love at first sight. The panel is enough to make 24 drawstring bags (using your own backing fabrics) of various sizes.  Print includes metallic highlights.  I went a little Dashwood crazy in this month's selections, so many good things to chose from!

Bumper August Summer Selection...Village Haberdashery, Eternal Maker and Plush Addict

I'm combining posts for this month's sponsor visits as I'm enjoying the last couple of weeks of the summer holidays with family.  All my choices are inspired by that last blast of summer feeling that comes just before the season turns.. we just need the weather to get the memo and heat up a little in the UK!

Village Haberdashery

1. Menagerie by Anna Rifle for Cotton+Steel. The Rifle collections go from strength to strength and Menagerie looks amazing. There's a couple of stand out prints for me, Watercolour in Multi and Jardin De Paris in Peony (my favourite ever Rifle print) but that's just personal taste, they are all glorious. There is the usual range of substrates (quilting cotton, rayon, canvas and a new rayon/cotton lawn) and although they are as yet a pre-order purchase, Annie has mentioned they are due in any time now...
2. Lady McElroy Lawns.  Annies stocks an amazing selection of these soft cotton lawns with prints from small floral to large tropical fronds.
3. Plant Lady Fabric Selection. A fantastic selection of prints reflecting such a popular trend in clothing and interiors.

Eternal Maker

1. Arroyo by Erin Dollar for Robert Kaufman. Simple mark making prints on a classic Essex linen base. They have that effortless modern look that's perfect for bags, cushions and quilts.  These are just the neutral tones, there are more soft pastel and light colours. My personal favourite is Sprinkles in Pickle; great colour and I love the name!
2. Chambray Double Gauze by Robert Kaufman.  I love chambray, I love double gauze and I love blue so this is fabric perfection for me.  It's wide 146cm/56" and has a slight lovely variable colour.  Double gauze works well in simple shapes and for those times in Autumn when it's cold early morning and warm by lunch time, it is the ideal fabric choice!
3. Jumbo Plaid from Hometown Christmas by Sweetwater for Moda in Ivory, Mint, Olive, Red.  Christmas fabric with year round appeal!

Plush Addict

1. Dashwood Studio Copenhagen by Jilly Philips.  Florals, birds and butterflies in china blue colours, reminiscent of ceramic designs.

July at Eternal Maker: Flash Free Shipping Offer!

March at Eternal Maker: New Website

The big news for my longtime sponsor Eternal Maker this month is an all-singing, all-dancing website.  It's only just gone live so there still might be a few kinks to iron out but so far, I've found lots of handy features including a super fast Paypal feature as an alternative check out, a double arrow checker to compare product, a heart icon wish list feature (you need to create an account and log in), reviews and much more.

February at Eternal Maker

I've chosen blues for this month's choice from sponsor Eternal Maker inspired by the hottest fabric range at the moment, Outback Wife.  This is a range of cotton barkcloths by Cathi Bessell Browne who you may know from Instagram as Gertrude Made.  The stories behind the prints are inspired by women Cathi knows and can be found on her blog- see Elaine's story as an example.  The fabric itself is slubby, medium to heavy weight but the weave is quite relaxed so the drape is good.  My first thoughts for barkcloth are dresses, skirts and jackets.  It's also perfect for bags (tote styles would work well), purses and home decor - curtains, pillows etc.  It can work for quilting but it needs simple bold designs and bigger shapes as it is a fabric that frays easily and the seams can be bulky.  See a stunning of a quilt which mixes Outback Wife with other fabrics here and a free pattern at Ella Blue, the manufacturers of this fabric range.  Outback Wife is available for pre-order in lots of colours and it's likely many of the prints will sell out before it arrives in May.  Eternal Maker are stocking the full floral range, Anna spoke to Cathi at the Stitches trade fair last week and couldn't resist all the prints!  The range was developed slowly and included handpainting the floral designs so although it is an expensive purchase it's hard to resist at least a small cut and at 150cm wide, that might help soften the blow.  I've chosen some quilting cottons too and some Nani Iro double gauze, so hopefully something for everyone.

October at Eternal Maker

Time for my monthly visit to Eternal Maker and my colour palette is definitely Autumnal!  I've included a mix of brushed cotton, lightweight chambray, linen cotton blend, rayon/cotton double gauze and quilting cotton alongside some pattern suggestions.

1. Kokka, pressed brushed cotton,Rings in mustard.  The description of this fabric is very interesting; the circle ring image is pressed into the fabric.  Suitable for skirts, jackets and trousers.
2. Robert Kaufman cotton chambray-dot in indigo  Floaty chambray, great for dressmaking although you may need to line some skirts.
3. Girl and the squirrel Iris tee kit.  This includes the Two Stitches Iris Tee pattern (age range 6 months- 9 years) and fabric to make a Tee up to age 5 years.
4. Kokka Botanica black/monochrome linen blend by Ellen Luckett-Baker.

September at Eternal Maker

Time for my end of month visit to sponsor Eternal Maker.  Lots to chose from as ever including metallic yarn dyed fabric, printed Essex linen and double gauze batik prints.

5. Euclid by Carolyn Friedlander, printed on Essex linen.   Beautiful stable linen/cotton blend, great for heavier quilts, bags, cushions and clothing. 
6. Double gauze batiks from Moda, soft and floaty, 110cm wide.  Sashiko, Fans,  Gulls,   Could be an option for a lightweight Deer and Doe Aubepine dress.

July at Eternal Maker

Here are my July choices for Eternal Maker, I can always find so many beauties hidden in their vast selection online- even more in their bricks and mortar shop in Chichester.  I'm loving grey and bright colours at the moment so that was my starting point for these choices.

1. Cat Face silhouette jersey knit. Lightweight  cotton/ lycra jersey (8% elastane).  A multitude of clothing uses
2. Circle Blooms, in blue on linen blend.  Beautiful paper cut style print by Ellen Luckett Baker  for Kokka. Also available in pink.
3. Dream a Little, grey, Faraway Forest.  My favourite print from the Faraway forest range by   Lizzie Mackay for Blend fabrics, (see more in the next choice).  I've seen this print sewn up as a sleep mask which is a lovely  idea, also good for a cloud cushion or pillowcase.

5. Puddle Pink from Rain or Shine, Dashwood Studios.  Vibrant colours in this quilting cotton print.
6. Jersey viscose bias binding.  Incredibly useful bias binding which works well with woven fabrics e.g. to finish necklines or armholes.  Just some of the colours available in this photo, big colour selection available online.
7. Heavyweight denim with colour motes by Robert Kaufman.  I haven't seen this elsewhere in the UK and the little flecks are a great little addition, I can see it used for a bag or children's wear, or maybe a Grainline Moss skirt?
8. Grove Sidewalk from Handcrafted 2 by Alison Glass.  these Handcrafted hand dyed fabrics are between quilting weight and garment weight so work for both.
9. Piece, Grey Silver, Echino metallic cotton linen blend.  Stunning print by Etsuko Furuya.

April at Eternal Maker

Just in time to get my April sponsor post in for Eternal Maker.  These are my nine choices for this month from their treasure trove of Japanese imports and many more. 

Fabrics from left to right:

1. Marcus blue/beige stripe, Mas d'Ousvan.  Beautiful shade of blue and classic french style in this quilting cotton. 
2. Pineapple orange cotton lawn from Hokkoh.  Silky lawn fabric, perfect for shirts, tops or even luxurious quilt backs and linings.  
3. Carme Blouse- shirt top with placket opening from Pauline Alice patterns.  With it's roll-up sleeves it's ideal for the stop-start weather many people have been having. 
4. Peeking Cats Jersey Knit.   Very cute design, (140cm wide lightweight cotton jersey with 8% lycra)- I predict this will sell super-fast. 
5. Unicornucopia Jersey Knit 140cm wide lightweight cotton jersey with 8% lycra.  Another newly arrived fabric and again, I think this will be a popular seller.
6. Yellow and grey spot cotton canvas by Hokkoh.  Gorgeous yellows in this fabric.
7. Blue stripe cotton jersey from Kiyohara (Japan).   Perfect colours and this company is well know for great quality fabric.  Narrower width at 90cm so check your quantity.
8. Pineapple palm coral from Michael Miller fabrics  Lovely colour combinations in this print
9. Swiss Dot Chambray- very floaty and lightweight, soft and tactile.  I have some of this waiting in my stash to become a Pauline Alice Carme blouse

March at Eternal Maker

Time for my monthly visit to Eternal Maker and a nine-patch photo collage selection of quilting and dressmaking fabrics that have caught my eye this month.

1.  Blend Fabrics Daydream Green Faraway Forest by Lizzie Mackay   Beautiful dreamy monochrome design- see the other pastel colours of this print here.

2.  Studio E Small Talk Text Sewing themed words text print fabric.  

3.  Makower Town Riverbank This design works like a border print so perfect for a gathered skirt formed of rectangles so the riverbank buildings and painterly work in horizontal bands around a skirt.  This could work well in a quilt too. 

4.  Riley Blake Lovebugs Envelopes This is such a cute fabric and could work as a feature or as background in a quilt.  It would be lovely for a little girl's dress too. See the rest of the Lovebugs collection here.

5.  Riley Blake Navy Polka Flower By Melly and Me a clever new take on the classic navy/off white polka dot design.

6.  Riley Blake Lovebugs Text This would make a very special quilt backing fabric.  Love love love all the way!  See the rest of the Lovebugs collection here.

7.  Riley Blake Idle Winds Jersey/knit fabric 95% cotton/5% spandex.  The addition of spandex gives this knit fabric good recovery so tops and legging won't bag out at the knees and elbows.  Good weight for dresses too.

8.  Studio E Small Talk Symbols  Brilliant low volume print!

9. Hokkoh Grey Fox Scallop Pincord.  A fine soft corduroy fabric suitable for clothing, craft or quilting. 

February at Eternal Maker

Time for my monthly visit to Eternal Maker and I'm starting off with a seaside theme with a Riley Blake collection, Offshore by Deena Rutter.

The standout prints for me are the little boats in the 'Sailing' design and the Lobsters which look like they are dancing!

There is a large selection of Ombre fabrics on the shelves of Eternal Maker at the moment.   I'm never exactly sure what to sew with them or even the optimum way to cut them up to make the most of the ombre shading effect but there's a helpful post on suitable patterns at the V and Co website and a jelly roll seems like a handy way to get a slice of each colour

The bolts of Ombre Basics look rather stunning too ( this pic is from Eternal Maker's Facebook page).  

I think they would work well with Karen Lewis's Blueberry Park prints for Robert Kaufman.

I've noticed a new dressmaking section in the 'fabric by type' options and there are some beautiful fabrics in there, including this 'People' lawn from Hokkoh.

I also found this gorgeous 'Daisies' embroidered and cutwork cotton in grey:

It would make a wonderful contrast panel on a shirt of dress or it could be lined with a burst of colour to show though the circles.  I could also see it being used on the Pauline Alice 'Carme' blouse- skip the tucks and use the daisies on the bib section.

The Pauline Alice Seda dress is another perfect candidate for a contrast Daisy panel:

Also spotted in Dressmaking was this medium weight stretch denim with a cute mini dinosaur print.

It would make very cute shorts or maybe a Grainline Moss skirt? or Maritime Shorts?  I must be thinking of summer, at least in the UK as it's too chilly for either at the moment!  There are lots of Oliver+S patterns that would be a great fit for this fabric- see them all here.

For dinosaur fans big and small there's a super collection from Lewis and Irene called Jurassic Coast which has a mix of more abstract/patterned fabrics as well more illustrative prints.  I've chosen three fabrics to showcase the designs but you can find more colour ways here:
