October at Plush Addict

It's time for my monthly visit to sponsor Plush Addict and I've spotted some beauties to share, particularly for quilters!  I have noticed that someone has been taking some particularly gorgeous photos of the new arrivals and the colours really shine through.

  1. FQ Bundle Kona New Colours for 2019.  A must-have for solid colour lovers, a fat quarter for each of the 25 new colours!
  2. FQ Bundle Dashwood Under the Stars.  A bundle of eight night-time forest animal party-themed prints designed by Sarah Knight,  A lovely, warm winter colour palette.
  3. FQ Bundle Very Hungry Caterpillar Bundle. 11 Fabrics. A timeless story and the perfect bundle to welcome a baby
  4. FQ Bundle Andover Royal Blue 24 Fabrics.  Designed by Edytar Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, a stunning selection of the most beautiful prints with a blue theme. There's a free Norway quilt pattern to go with these beauties too.
I'd also like to give a mention to the Alison Glass Handiwork Collection- the FQ bundle is already out of stock but there is yardage of most fabrics, Decoupage is my pick of the prints!

September at Plush Addict

I've got some wonderful prints, a snuggly knit and some fantastic canvas at a bargain price in this month's post for sponsors Plush Addict.  I never struggle when I put together my monthly selection, Kellie Rose always has something new to capture my attention:

Clockwise from top left:

  1. Dashwood 'Elinor' 8 FQ Bundle, I love this collection from Ali Brooks, I think she's my favourite Dashwood designer.  So much to like with these print: sisters,  houses, strawberries- I know I can't resist the 'Wild Berries' print!  All prints are available as yardage.
  2. Art Gallery, 'Keeping Watch Dim Knit' jersey.  This print is from Bonnie Christine's 'Lambkin' collection from a few years back.  It was aimed at makes for children but many of the prints cross over- I have some of this waiting to become the cosiest jersey pyjamas like these.  I totally recommend using the Grainline Linden with cotton spandex jersey for a comfy PJ top, I have worn these so much and they always make me feel snuggly!  There's not much left of this one so if you fancy it, don't delay!
  3. Dashwood 'Laska'8 FQ Bundle.  Jilly P draws the best animal prints!  The Laska collection has so many popular motifs, bears , polar bears , whales , wolves
  4. Cotton Fabric Linen Look Canvas- Kitchen Jars in Natural.  Love this, it looks like an expensive Scandi inspired Japanese fabric, and yet it's a cotton canvas bargain at £7.80/metre.  I would be making kitchen chair cushions and a cross-back apron with this fabric.  Check these Robins out for another outstanding print at a great price.

August at Plush Addict

I've put a lovely selection together from blog sponsor Plush Addict for August, even if I do say so myself!  Something for everyone- quilters and garment sewers alike, plus some free projects to download.  If you read this over the weekend, there's free postage too, finishes Monday 26th Aug.

  1. Andover, Libs Elliot Greatest Hits FQ Bundle.  All the colours of the rainbow with some quirky modern prints.  These fabrics are available as yardage as well as this mega bundle.
  2. Andover Libs Elliot Greatest Hit Quilt Pattern- Free download
  3. Art Gallery, Clever Little Fox Knit.  A lovely bold animal print,  Art Gallery jersey is always great quality, washes well and has good stretch recovery.
  4. Makower Forest Cushion Pattern- Free download- for fabric in 5.
  5. Makower Forest Green 10 FQ Bundle.   Forest animals and woodland scenes are always appealing, this is a lively colour palette and the same prints are also available in an orange colourway.

July at Plush Addict

The new arrivals never stop at Plush Addict.  Here's my selection for July, a mix of quilting cotton, cotton jersey and bamboo jersey!  I've included some Christmas fabrics as they arrive in July and they're on special offer at the moment, 20% off until this Saturday- sorry I know that's not much time!

Clockwise from top left:
Dashwood Summer Dance 7x FQ Bundle.  This seems appropriate as we reach the peak of summer heat in the UK.  There's also a stunning teal Swallows border print ( a peek can be seen top right in Summer Dance the photo!).

Premium Organic Cotton Jersey Dark denim, also available in mint, rose pink and black.  This is a great value, organic jersey at £14.95/M.  There's 5% spandex for good recovery and spring back and this is a wide width 150cm fabric

Dashwood Christmas Party  Fabulous cats and Christmas print!  This is my kind of Christmas quilt fabric collection, fun, not too red and green and unexpected animals like tigers!

Solid Colour Bamboo Jersey in white and also yellow.  Bamboo with a spandex mix of 5%.  Great drape- similar to viscose jersey but with a bit more body.  Lovely for clothing including sports wear, antibacterial and very pleasant to wear in hot weather.  Bamboo is also a more sustainable fibre than cotton as less water is involved in creating the fibre.

Dashwood Merry & Bright Drawstring Bag Advent Calendar.  I made a similar set to these last year with a Dashwood panel.  You need backing fabric and lots of ribbon/tape for the drawstring.  If you prefer pockets, the Joli Noel is a very pretty alternative.

May at Plush Addict

Time to see what's new in Plush Addict this month:

  1. Sew Over It Eve Dress.  I made this a couple of months ago and I really loved the result.  The bodice fitted well and the flutter sleeves look great and are so comfortable to wear on a hot day.  It's a dress that can easily become be worn at a special occasion with the right fabric, or an everyday summer dress.  It needs drapey fabric to work at it's best.  Plush Addict has just started stocking Sew Over It patterns and there's a wide selection.
  2. Dashwood Viscose Rayon: Pink Floral on Grey.  This gorgeous floral would make a beautiful Eve dress.  It's got the drape and the multi-directional pattern prevents fabric wastage when cutting out.  It needs gentle prewashing and I would suggest the raw edges are overlocked before putting in the machine at 30.  Sharp pins and a new machine needle are a good idea when working with viscose.

  1. Patterns By Annie Clam-Up.  There are quite a few Patterns by Annie to choose from at Plush Addict and I chose this one as I hadn't seen it before and it looked like a good pattern for gifts or swaps.  I particularly like the side panels to stop items falling out and all the different sizes. There's also an option to include a wipe-clean vinyl interior for a cosmetic bag. Annie's patterns are well thought out with lots of extra details, she's a designer that loves adding all the storage options!
  2. Japanese Import Oxford Cloth Katusbi Apples.  This is a cotton/linen 80/20 blend and the fabric weight is perfect for cushions and bags.  This print is crying out to become a grocery bag! Free shopper's tote download here and a Kwik Sew pattern here.

April at Plush Addict

I'm bringing my embroidery out from hibernation now that the light is brighter so, for this month's visit to sponsor Plush Addict, I picked out some embroidery related items in their new arrivals as well as threads and fabric.  There's also a 20% discount storewide discount for orders up to and including 29th April.  Find the code here!

  1.  Gutermann 10-x-100m Basics Shades Cotton Thread Set.  These thread sets are great value.  This one is a cotton selection and there are other colourways as well as sew-all polyester versions.
  2. Wooden 4-Drawer Storage-Box.  If you have that spring cleaning feeling and are clearing out and getting your sewing space organised these cute little wooden drawers are perfect for all the small items which need a home.
  3. Owl Embroidery Floss Holder.  I couldn't resist this, such good values and very useful for embroidery projects.  Also available in other shapes including unicorn, flower and thread card.  The centre of each design can be cross stitched.  Find DMC stranded thread/floss here.
  4. Makower Sea Breeze FQ Bundle x 17Fabrics  Seaside collections are always popular and Sea Breeze has a lovely mix of nautical colours, stripes, spots and novelty prints.  Free cushion and bag patterns using these prints are also available for instant download.

March at Plush Addict

There have been some hot deliveries at sponsor Plush Addict and I know a lot of you are big Libs Elliot fans so I wanted to be quick to show you the full Tattooed North collection.  There are also some great new arrivals in garment patterns and Spring in the Northern hemisphere combined with The Great British Sewing Bee inspiration makes it a great time to sew clothes!

Libs Elliot Tattooed North Collection for Andover: FQ Bundle 28 Fabrics
Lib's Elliot has nailed this geometric abstract collection.  All these prints are available as yardage (as stock allows) and I'm guessing this is going to be a very popular fabric range!  I like the range in scale across the prints and my favourite is Rocks in Gold, followed by Sand in Charcoal.   There's also a free quilt pattern to download too. On a side note, I really struggle spelling "Tattooed" correctly, is that just me?!

Tilly and The Buttons Eden Coat.
Tilly is the queen of clear, simple, well-photographed instructions and that's so reassuring when tackling a bigger project like a coat.  Although it can seem a little overwhelming, a coat in this style has quite an easy fit so sizing is often much easier than a fitted bodice, and a coat is one of those garments that will see such a lot of wear.  This pattern includes instructions for making a raincoat in an anorak style, or a warmer longer duffle style coat.  Both include a lining, hood and optional zip. I especially like the duffle coat and though this fabric: Wool blend coating in blue/white combined with this Camel antic static lining would work well.  A large check so pattern matching shouldn't be too tricky and a good value wool blend. There is a wool blend solid charcoal if pattern matching is too scary!  These wooden toggles would be my choice, find others here.

February Arrivals at Plush Addict

We are getting an early burst of Spring in the UK at the moment and I'm feeling the buzz of plants and colours emerging as I look at Plush Addict's latest arrivals for my February sponsor post.  I've chosen quilt cotton bundles in a range of sizes and a knit fabric suitable for tops, leggings, dresses and more.

  1. Makower Fern Garden FQ Bundle.  I love the botanical illustrations in these vintage style prints, great colour palette too. Check out the Fern print, I think that's my favourite.
  2. Dashwood Stitch FQ Bundle.  Very cute modern mix of bright colours and sewing themed prints from Bethan Janine for Dashwood!  Six prints, also available as yardage.
  3. Art Gallery Sage Sunswept Canyon Knit.  I love Art Gallery knits, they are always great quality and have a good recovery to them.
  4. Dashwood Amelie FQ Bundle.  Adorable collection from Jilly P for Dashwood.   Her simple bold style is so distinctive and I love it!

Plush Addict
(click image to see in detail)

  1. Dashwood Studio Cool For Cats FQ Bundle (8 fabrics). Another wonderful collection from Dashwood.   Six cat themed prints along with some tonal grid style blenders, an quilt waiting to be made!  Separate yardage of each print is available.
  2. Dashwood Dovestone Wildflowers (Rayon) Viscose  This fabric sold out super fast last time it was in stock, so you have been warned.  This is a super drapey wide rayon fabric, perfect for kimonos, dresses, palazzo style pants, skirts, tops-  any garment making where drape is essential!  This fabric needs gentle prewashing and as with rayon/viscose generally, care when cutting, sewing and pinning. Also available in gold and grey.
  3. Makower Dream 20 Fabric FQ Bundle.  A pretty mix of blush pinks, creams and soft blues.  Available as a bundle or separately.

Eternal Maker
(click image to see in detail)

  1. **PRE ORDER**Trixie Fat Quarter Bundle by Heather Ross (21 FQs)  This is a hard one to resist.  Pre-order (currently due March 2019) so maybe a potential Christmas present.  I love the addition of the little gingham to this collection.
  2. Wool Mix Spot.  Reversible poly/wool blend woven fabric which is ideal for winter coats and jackets.  This reminds me of Boden coats!  This would be very cute with the Named Clothing Lourdes cropped jacket for cute little A-line jacket.
  3. Lady McElroy Serenity.  Gorgeous large digital floral print on viscose on a sunny yellow background.  Wide width and lots and lots of drape.  This is a lovely dressmaking fabric!

August at Eternal Maker and Plush Addict- Seasonal Transition Choices

We're moving out of Summer and into Autumn in the UK, a time of transition so for this month's sponsor visits to Eternal Maker and Plush Addict, I've chosen colours, fabrics and styles that fit with a change of season and keep the mix of dressmaking and quilting that I love.

Eternal Maker

  1. Tea House Top and Dress by Sew House Seven Paper and PDF versions. I've included this as it's on my September make list.  I've had the pattern for a while and it looks like the ideal transitional dress, especially the longer version so if I include it here, it might give me the push to get it sewn!  There are no extra fastenings to include and I think it could be worn over a skinny long sleeve top to give it a longer wearing time.
  2. Dashes- Indigo Woven from Sevenberry. Medium to heavy weight with texture.  Ideal for cushions bags and heavier weight structural clothing.
  3. Double-Sided double Gauze in Scallop Stripe Grey from Kokka. Maximise the contrast by using both sides of this gorgeous double gauze
  4. Mustard Rust: Eternal Maker custom fat quarter bundle.  I love the curated bundles at Eternal Maker, they put together what looks like an effortless combination and this one is the perfect autumnal mix with the warm colours and the textural mix of cottons with linen blends.

  1. Cork Fabric: with natural and dark metallic grain. I've yet to try cork fabric but I've seen so many bags and purses made with it and it has great structural and textural appeal.  Kellie Rose describes this as feeling like leather and it's also known as cork leather.
  2. Denim 11oz 150cm wide.  Dark denim, ready for clothing, cushions, bags and accessories.  You can read a handy guide to denim weight here which includes guidance and tips for sewing; at under 12oz,  this is in the lighter weight category.
  3. Makower Bloom Autumn FQ Bundle (11 fabrics). I couldn't resist this bundle with the title and colourway!
  4. Dashwood Boho Meadow Animals in white. Designed by Bethan Janine (also available in dark blue).
I've got a basic membership to Picmonkey so I've been playing around with some mood board style layouts to collate the images which is fun to do!

July at Plush Addict and Eternal Maker

I've chosen a wonderful selection of the latest fabric and pattern arrivals at Eternal Maker and Plush Addict for my July sponsor post.  The weather is forecast to continue warm in the UK for the next month or so which is a great encouragement for dressmaking, plus I've included some 'Christmas in July" quilting items for those who want to make an early start!  The Plush Addict website has had a makeover and I found it easier to navigate for specific items, especially on my iPad.

From Plush Addict, l to r:

  1. Dashwood Dovestone Large Floral Viscose (Rayon), wide width, ideal for dressmaking, lots of drape. I've bought a couple of metres of this for a Sew Over It Kimono and cami so this photo is from my fabric.  The background colour is a charcoal grey, it is divine!  Other prints include Ochre FloralSmall Floral.  It needs gentle handling and prewashing (30 degrees on handwash or wool cycle) as rayon tends to shrink.
  2. Tilly and the Buttons Seren Dress.  Suitable for a sewist with some experience. Lots of options- frill, no frill, tie front detail.
  3. Dashwood Studio, Winterfold 8 FQ bundle.  Winter themed quilting cotton with copper metallic detail.  Also available in yardage.
  4. Dashwood Studio Christmas Street Drawstring Advent Bag Calendar 75cm Panel. Designed by Jane Farnham  I saw these on the Dashwood IG feed a few weeks ago and it was love at first sight. The panel is enough to make 24 drawstring bags (using your own backing fabrics) of various sizes.  Print includes metallic highlights.  I went a little Dashwood crazy in this month's selections, so many good things to chose from!

From Eternal Maker, l to r:

  1. Echino Sprout Natural, Echino in natural. Cotton linen blend. Metallic accents. Gorgeous print and a great weight for cushions and bags.
  2. Kokka Double Gauze, Bubble Birds Khaki and Grey.  Pretty soft double gauze in a simple print.
  3. Nani Iro 'Grace' Double Gauze. Bold colours and block stripe design.
  4. Friday Pattern Company.  This is a new-to-me women's wear garment pattern company with modern designs, often for knits, many of which are particularly summer friendly- Vernazza Two piece bikini (love the big briefs!), Joni Jumpsuit, Hi-lo Dress, Sunny Dress/Top

Bumper August Summer Selection...Village Haberdashery, Eternal Maker and Plush Addict

I'm combining posts for this month's sponsor visits as I'm enjoying the last couple of weeks of the summer holidays with family.  All my choices are inspired by that last blast of summer feeling that comes just before the season turns.. we just need the weather to get the memo and heat up a little in the UK!

Village Haberdashery
  1. Menagerie by Anna Rifle for Cotton+Steel. The Rifle collections go from strength to strength and Menagerie looks amazing. There's a couple of stand out prints for me, Watercolour in Multi and Jardin De Paris in Peony (my favourite ever Rifle print) but that's just personal taste, they are all glorious. There is the usual range of substrates (quilting cotton, rayon, canvas and a new rayon/cotton lawn) and although they are as yet a pre-order purchase, Annie has mentioned they are due in any time now...
  2. Lady McElroy Lawns.  Annies stocks an amazing selection of these soft cotton lawns with prints from small floral to large tropical fronds.
  3. Plant Lady Fabric Selection. A fantastic selection of prints reflecting such a popular trend in clothing and interiors.
Eternal Maker
  1. Arroyo by Erin Dollar for Robert Kaufman. Simple mark making prints on a classic Essex linen base. They have that effortless modern look that's perfect for bags, cushions and quilts.  These are just the neutral tones, there are more soft pastel and light colours. My personal favourite is Sprinkles in Pickle; great colour and I love the name!
  2. Chambray Double Gauze by Robert Kaufman.  I love chambray, I love double gauze and I love blue so this is fabric perfection for me.  It's wide 146cm/56" and has a slight lovely variable colour.  Double gauze works well in simple shapes and for those times in Autumn when it's cold early morning and warm by lunch time, it is the ideal fabric choice!
  3. Jumbo Plaid from Hometown Christmas by Sweetwater for Moda in IvoryMintOliveRed.  Christmas fabric with year round appeal!
Plush Addict
  1. Dashwood Studio Copenhagen by Jilly Philips.  Florals, birds and butterflies in china blue colours, reminiscent of ceramic designs.
  2. Hobbs Precut wadding.  On offer with 15% off until 27th August. Time to stock up on essential supplies...
  3. Riley Blake Bee Backgrounds. Lori Holt's new quilting low volume collection comes in cold, warm and neutral and is available in bundles and yardage.

December at Plush Addict: Luxury Crepe Special Edition

For December at Plush Addict, I'm going to do something a little different.  Following a chat with Kellie about luxury crepe, I'm concentrating just on that fabric in all it's nine colours and partnering it with Tilly and the Buttons patterns.  Why the two together?  The same fabric is often used for the pattern samples and many of Tilly's designs work well with the drape of the fabric.  They are also suitable for beginners, as well as experienced sewers.  If you need a special outfit for Christmas, either for evenings out or something glam for Christmas day, there's a style for everyone. Kellie sent me some samples of each colour of luxury crepe and as the name suggests, it has a luxury feel.  It's opaque and has a bit of weight so safe to use without worrying about of lining.  The drape makes it good for any garment that needs to swish and fall against the skin beautifully- tops, skirts, fuller/loose trousers, dresses, anything without too much structure.  The colours are gorgeous.  I photographed the strips in the sunlight today and the colours are true.

If you are quick, all dressmaking fabric is 20% off-  discount finishes midnight 12th December!

The crepes from top to bottom are:
1. Navy
2. Red
6. Black (limited quantity available)
7. Ivory
8. Teal
9. Aqua

The sewing patterns from bottom left to top right are:

You can get more of a sense of the fabric colours from a quick video I filmed on Instagram to provide an idea of the colours, thickness and movement of the fabric.

November at Plush Addict: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Time for my November visit to sponsor Plush Addict.  Kellie has just had some very colourful new arrivals including a spectacular Alison Glass Seventy Six bundle of 30 fabrics for Andover.  This is not going to be restocked so if you want an amazing bundle, maybe an amazing Christmas present, it's waiting for you.   There's also a Christmas shop section if you are looking for Christmas fabric and related products.

  2. Alison Glass Seventy Six: bundle of 30 fabrics.  Stunning fat quarter selection of saturated colours plus greys and white prints. Also available as yardage.
  3. Tilly & the Buttons Cleo Dungaree Dress Pattern.  Very popular pattern from Tilly Walnes, quick to sew up- suitable fabrics can be found in the denim sectioncorduroys or this floral twill would also work well.

  5. Clothworks 25 Days of Christmas, red Peppermints

October at Plush Addict

Time to visit Plus Addict for my monthly sponsor post and I've seen lots of new bundles popping up where Kellie Rose mixes prints with some blenders from other ranges to great effect.  My favourite is Vintage Daydream.    I've also chosen some gift and costume ideas thinking ahead to the next few months!

From left to right, row by row:
  1. Moda, Wing and Leaf: this bundle includes some Moda Grunge and Makower linen texture.  You can see all option for this range including precuts and individual yardage here.
  2. Baby Cord Cherries on Navy.  I pounced on this and promptly ordered 3 metres when I saw Kellie preview this gorgeous cord on Instagram.  Wide width, lovely soft quality.  I think I am going to sew another long length Darling Ranges dress with mine.
  3. Riley Blake Princess Dreams.  Kellie has mixed the Princess Dreams prints with Moda Grunge and Makower fabrics to create a fabulous little bundle for little girls with lots of pattern and colour.  Individual yardage is here.
  4. Felt Craft Kit, Gingerbread Man: one of a selection of cute value kits that could make a good half term activity for older crafty children.
  5. Riley Blake Vintage Daydream.  I seriously love this range and Kellie has combined the six individual prints that Plush Addict are stocking with the most perfect Moda grunge smudge gorgeous colours.
  6. Metallic Gold Effect Dancewear Stretch Fabric.  We are coming into the time of year where costumes and fancy dress need to be made.  This could even be used for some sparkly lingerie - gold bralette maybe?!
  7. Riley Blake, Mid Mod.  Retro colours and shapes from designer Emily Haye, mixed in with some great mixers chosen by Kellie. See individual yardage here.
  8. Spool shape Novely USB stick 2GB.  Great gift idea, get organised early!
  9. Moda Shibori, Kelly has combined these indigo and tie dye inspired prints with some Grunge and linen texture to make a gorgeous blue bundle.  Individual prints can be seen here.
