Dress ready to wear

I finished my Portfolio dress  and wore it on Monday to go for a lunch with girlfriends- no children, first time achieved for 3 of us in over 10 years of knowing each other.  Taking a picture in a house where every wall has something on it or against it is rather hard so apologies for the crowded photos- this is my bedroom and like everywhere else, I have a lot of bits and pieces!
This is a positively racy and risque length for me.  When I walk it even brushes above the knee!  I never wear this length with bare legs.  But, it is a very comfortable dress and the pockets are perfect for last minute key and phone storage.
I did faff around with pattern placement when I cut out the pattern so it balances pretty well over the dress.   I don't think I have ever made a garment with either the correct length or width of fabric and this is no exception which does rather prolong the boring cutting out phase.
And no one outside the house has realised it was once a pair of curtains!  The sound of music comments made me laugh and it took me to thinking about Enchanted when Giselle createsa blue dress out of Robert's smart apartment drapes and you can see the pattern pieces silhouetted in the window! Scroll down here to see (and other lovely movie sewing images too).
More Lisette sewing beckons.  I have the Market pattern and I will try one of the tops next.  I have an unused pattern for swap, Cynthia Rowley 2593 for Simplicity and if anyone has Lisette Passport or traveler dress pattern in the small size range, I would love to swap that for it.  You can see a version here and here.
Meanwhile, Aurifil thread giveaway still on here!

  4. Gorgeous! Well done! I recently made a skirt from vintage curtains, a first in dressmaking for me, but I'm secretly smiling when I wear it knowing they used to hang on someone's kitchen window! Satisfying! Jxo
