The fabric is a another drapey floral kindly sent by Mark at Girl Charlee. He was kind enough to send me samples first to make sure the drape was right for this style. She chose Red Pink Roses on black cotton jersey blend which is lightweight with lovely drape.
I shortened by working upwards from the hem on the pattern and using a jersey dress in L's wardrobe that was a favourite length. I traced a copy off my size 36/UK 8 pattern for L. She tried on my jersey Kielo and she needed a narrower lower back and waist so I reduced these areas along the back centre seam. The front is unchanged apart from being shorter.
Otherwise construction was like my first jersey Kielo. When it came to hemming I let it hang and then evened out the hem whilst L was wearing it. There's more fabric to contend with as the dress gets narrower as it gets longer but it worked out fine. This short version used 2 metres of 142cm wide fabric based on a one way print. If it had been multi directional or plain it could've been 1.75 metres. Other suitable fabrics in terms of weight/drape were:
- Floral Garden
- Taupe Daisy on black
- Plum grey Rose floral
- Vintage Roses on Navy (v Cath Kidston feel to the print)
- Pink Mint Daisy (choice for my version)
These are all florals as that was her preference but there's other options and Mark and the team are happy to advise, they know their stock well!
Now for the GVEAWAY!
Mark has kindly offered the sort of giveaway prize that I would love to win, a PDF pattern (lots to chose from including Wendy Ward, Named Clothing, Itch to Stitch and many more) and knitted fabric of your choice to make the pattern from Girl Charlee Fabrics UK and Europe. As the company name suggest, entries are open to UK and Europe.
Giveaway is now finished. A winner has been randomly chosen- number 25, Mel- and informed. Comments are closed.
I love the vintage roses on navy, such a great print that would be great for work or more casual! Thanks for the chance to win!

I like the idea of a Giselle dress in navy broken chevron. Love your daughter's dress 😊
ReplyDeleteOhh, I'm very undecided! I've had my eye on this blue/brown floral Hacci knit for a while: http://www.girlcharlee.co.uk/blue-choco-botanical-floral-hacci-sweater-knit-fabric-p-11766.html?cPath=90_126 but the pattern that really calls to me is the Jacqueline hoodie: http://www.girlcharlee.co.uk/itch-to-stitch-jacqueline-hoodie-sewing-pattern-p-13273.html?cPath=210 - both great but an impossible combination!
ReplyDeleteI have been looking at this pattern so many times since seeing your version - the named version I just passed over as I thought it would not be for me. I would love to try to make one of these - probably in the navy floral.
ReplyDeleteI would love the KZJO'STUDIO Genavieve dress in the lovely mint floral that you used for your first Kielo dress.

Your daughter is so beautiful and the dress fits her well. Looks like the sun was nice to you too. Thanks for the give away. I think I would go for Brightside Shrug. Or any other cardigan. Or I make a dress for my girl but that one she has to chose herself :)
ReplyDeleteI really love so many of the Girl Charlee fabrics, that this is almost impossible!! But...if I had to choose...I'd love to try the Kzjo'studio Ashlin Dress in the blue coral ikat fabric - such gorgeous colours! missjbain at gmail dot com. Thanks for the competition opportunity!
ReplyDeleteThe dress you made looks very beautiful! With all your beautiful makes, you made me want to try the Kielo dress pattern as well! I think Id love to make it in the coral peach floral on slade or the mustard red botanical floral fabric that I found at Girl Charlee fabrics website. The latter fabric is on the busy side of fabrics, but looks lovely. Thanks for the chance to win!
