I start the year with trying to get as many Bee blocks done as possible. Tomorrow, back to the day job. I ma lucky, I love my job and realistically I am unlikely to earn my living through stitching bits of fabric together, but it is with a little reluctance. I was invited to join the Cocorico bee (very similar to Ringo Pie) and I needed to get Melinda's block done first. Her theme was Vintage/Cute Christmas, I wanted to get it finished before Christmas completely disappeared.
I had to drag this block kicking and screaming from deep inside my creative internals. I had a vague idea, the jar shape was already in my head but it wasn't till I free pieced the string tied around the rim of the glass that I felt it was working. Only then did it make me smile and I could see it all working.
My usual letter stamps and red Versacraft on linen.
The tag shape came about from a lovely set of 'Kodomo Margaret' Japanese stationery stamps that Damian bought me for Christmas. I stamped onto Kona stone and used needle turn applique to stitch it on with a little perle thread to link it to the jar.
And then I went on a little stamping marathon, address stickers
cards, the Eiffel towel postal stamp was a little gift from Ayumi x
labels- love them!
These stamps are not the easiest thing to find, but this shop sells the brand.
Your block is amazing!! I love jars like that, always reminds me of reading Matilda! You are very clever :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet block! I found some versacraft ink when I was in the UK for Christmas. Super excited to get stamping!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at your paper piecing. I've never tried the technique, although I have a book on it somewhere. What you do is so different, though -- "Comfort and Joy" is perfect because that's what your sweet little blocks radiate. I always feel happy when I look at your projects!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Gorgeous, your blocks always look so good. I got some lettering stamps for Christmas, just need to get some ink now so I can start stamping away
ReplyDeleteLove the wee block, imagine a shelf of different shaped jars & tins, all in fabric of course........
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that looks absolutely fab, and love the label!
ReplyDeleteThe jar is just adorable and the stamps are super cute. Well done!
ReplyDeleteSooo beautiful, Kerry! And, wow, thanks for that link -- those stamps and stamp sets are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI completely sympathize with your feelings about the return to work. I have had work-related tasks hanging over me for the entirety of the (so-called) break, but the return to the daily grind is another matter altogether. Like you, I love my profession...but the sewing machine also beckons :)
What a beautiful block. I love the tags you've made with the stamps as well. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI dont think I would have known where to start!! Well done xx
