Plans

I have plans for this, I love to wear pink and green together but have not sewn this combination and it is one of my favourites and the easiest way for me to use green.
There are some colours that despite liking them I do not turn to often and green is a big one.  I like to push myself a little so this project is about going to the fabrics that get overlooked as I rush for the red and turquoise.
These colours I find a lot easier.  This sunny mix contains my plans for Marit's bee block  for Ringo Pie.  It was the longest day yesterday, officially the start of the summer (it is raining naturally).  My favourite thing about summer is light- there is so much more of it and for longer,  for my block I plan a big round sun!
Are there colours you like but don't use?  Do share!

  1. I love grey but then when I go to pull it from the grey box in my stash it looks dull. Have you seen tashanoel's FWQAL blocks - you're going to love them!

  2. I have only just started quilting so any colours of fabric are being collected just now!
I love your combination of pink and green - I don't think I would have put them together but it looks so summery! Reminds me of ice-cream, pistachio was always my favourite as a kid :)
Also thank you for the link about UK online shops, it was a big help for me. I'm a full time mum and I think it's much easier than dragging the kids round the shops! It also gave me an idea of what to look for and I'm saving up so I can create my stash. There are so many projects I want to do, now it's just finding the time to get through them!! That starbright mug rug is definitely on the list ;)
Your blog is a great inspiration, thank you :)

  3. Can't do blue...the bright royal primary kind of blue.

  4. It's funny how we all gravitate to certain colours. I have to make myself move away from blues, teals and greens otherwise I would just use them all the time. I love the box of sunny colours, I'd love to use more yellows and oranges would certainly brighten up yet another yukky grey and rainy day.

  5. Oh, these baskets are so full of glorious goodies ; )
I love playing with color, and more often than not base my quilts on a specific color combo. I have used red and green a few times, but for some reason they always give me a hard time. Yellow, orange and blue works like a charm - always... So let's just say I have a stack of quilts in this palette!

  6. Oranges and Yellows, don't seem to feature in my quilts often, not sure why but perhaps I will try harder.

  7. I think I have worked with just about everything to the point where I have deliberately put colours together that I would never think of as a team and they have proved to work even better than the regular combos. I can't look at pinks and purple together at the moment though.

  8. My favourite colour is purple, but it's the one I have least of in my stash. I've lots of oranges, which are old fashioned/harvesty - not sure if I'll ever use em. Jxo

  9. I have accumulated scraps of orange, but never consciously bought any - it always looks great...maybe there's some Hope Valley calling me to buy a meter, one day!

  10. i love the long, light days too. it seems you can fit more living into summer! :)

i don't use a lot of the darker blues and orange-y reds. my daughter wants a quilt that incorporates the blues so that will change soon. :)

  11. I have neglected both red and purple -- both colours I like, but not ones I reach for when planning a quilt.

  12. That was a really interesting response! Sounds like going outside your comfort zone is the best thing to do creatively, always good to surprise yourself!

  13. I find yellows really hard to work with, which is stange as I love reds and oranges! I try to make myself work outside my comfort zone every now and then, and often surprise myself. At present I am working on a cream quilt, very grown up, and then two in greens and pinks which I am loving.

  14. I'm attracted to different colours at different times of the year.. but really struggle to work with pink at any time! Love your lovely oranges and yellows.

  15. Ooh I think orange is missing in my quilting life - but I do love the colour. When I think about it I seem to have been working my way through the different colours but probably drawn to blue and green most.
