Love Patchwork and Quilting Magazine: Whatever the Weather blocks

The new issue of Love Patchwork and Quilting Magazine is out and I've got a Weather themed foundation paper piecing project inside.  Eight weather symbol blocks with a touch of retro aesthetic, these were great fun to design and the art team have done a lovely styling job on the photos!

Spring Cleaning in Love Patchwork and Quilting

There are so many things that I have been working on for the last few months and it feels like they are all just about to appear!  Today is a big one for Penny and I as Sew-Ichigo.  We have designed a 'Spring Clean' themed foundation paper piecing cover booklet for Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine and it goes on sale in UK shops today and hits USA in around 4-6 weeks.

Part of the booklet is a detailed tutorial packed full of techniques to make your piecing easier and more accurate- construction of my radio block is explained in great details.

This is Penny's design, an atomic sparkle!

The soap bubbles was a joint design, started by Penny and finished and sewn up by me.

Shine is one of my favourites, I loved the contrast between the Oakshott blue and the Denyse Schmidt floral print. 

Penny picked the most perfect fabrics for this brush, the bristles have got so much movement!

Penny's Wash and Go block shows how effective fussy cuts can be in foundation paper pieced blocks.

This retro light was by me- I think it has the wrong name on.  Its a quick straightforward design to sew! A huge thank you to Jen and Alice and the rest of the team at LPQ for such wonderful styling and artwork, they did the best job and exceeding everything we could have imagined for this!

Love Patchwork and Quilting: Winter House

I've so many things to blog about at the moment, I don't have time to get them all in, but I really want to share a foundation paper piecing project that is just about to come out in October's copy of Love Patchwork and Quilting.  You know my favourite things to paper piece are teapots and houses, so in preparation of the colder weather  a 'Winter House' foundation pieced cushion cover.

I love the photo styling!   I find cushions and pillows hard to photograph so its amazing what a professional can do!   This is a a skills builder project:  there are downloadable free full-size templates on the LPQ website for the paper piecing and I cover the foundation piecing process in details; there is a mitred corner border so the house looks like its sitting in a picture frame; and finally there is a machine stitched zipper opening which could easily be replaced by an envelope style opening too.

I kept to a muted cool palette with a hint of warmth just hinting at Christmas.  

This is the issue to look out for, you can see Lynne's new BOM top right in very pretty new Windham 'Mimosa' fabrics, as well as Cristina's stunning star quilt and a hint of Christmas with Ali's star stockings and Judith's easy paper pieced winter tree triangle projects.

Time for Tea Teaset Trio : Love Patchwork and Quilting

Self promotion is not my favourite thing but I am really proud of this project so I want to share here  A few months back I had a commission email from Jenny Fox-Proverbs, editor at Love Patchwork and Quilting and this project was the result, 'Time for Tea' trio of tea cosy, coasters and a divided teabag caddy. The instructions to make it are in Issue 13, out now. 

This project combines foundation paper piecing, appliqué and a little hand quilting and is a great skills builder if you want to try any of these techniques for the first time.  Everything has been beautifully photographed and the instructions are attractively laid out.  The templates are included at actual size in the magazine and are also available to download.   I love my tea so this project was a pleasure to make from beginning to end.  My daughter has already bagged the caddy for her own tea selection.
